Lenny the Flying Inventor

Once upon a time there was a funny boy named Lenny. Lenny was an inventor. He invented all kinds of things. His house looked like a mess, but he had some really cool things. One day Lenny decided he wanted to fly.

"I am going to invent some wings and fly," Lenny told his friend Rudy.

"Now I really know you are crazy. You won't even get off the ground," said Rudy.

"You will see," said Lenny.|

So he went down to his workshop and began working. Day and night, he worked. No one saw Lenny for weeks. Then one day he came out of his workshop with a great big grin on his face. He called Rudy on the phone. Rudy, tomorrow I will fly, but I need your help, said Lenny. Did you really build some wings?  Asked Rudy. Yeah and they are really beautiful, said Lenny. They are a little heavy though. I need you to help me drag them up to the top of the mountain. What did you make them out of?  Asked Rudy. I made them out of some scrap metal I had lying around from when I built my helicopter last year, said Lenny. Metal! Do not you think that will be too heavy to use for wings?  Asked Rudy.

 No, I calculated all of the angles. I will be like a human airplane, said Lenny. Rudy just closed his eyes. Ok, I will be over first thing in the morning and we will try them out, said Rudy. See you then, said Lenny. The next morning they dragged the wings up to the top of the mountain and Lenny the faster I run, the lighter they will get. The wind will lift me up and I will be flying, said Lenny, quite confidently.  All right, I am going to get a running start and take off, said Lenny. So, Lenny backed up about fifty feet and started running. As he ran, the weight of the wings started to wear out his legs and he got lower and lower to the ground. Just as he got to the crest of the hill, his legs gave out and he skidded across the ground on his face.

After Rudy rolled around on the ground laughing for about a minute, he got up and asked Lenny if he was Ok. "Yeah, yeah, real funny," said Lenny. I guess you may be right they are a little heavy, but I know the shape is just right. I will just go back to the workshop and make them out of another material. Something lighters a couple of weeks later Lenny called up Rudy. I have done it, said Lenny. You've done what? asked Rudy. I reworked the wings. I made them out of wood and tissue paper. These things are so light I may get going by simply jumping off the roof. Come on over, I need a witness, said Lenny. I am on the way, said Rudy.

When Rudy arrived, Lenny was already up on the roof with these hilarious looking pink wings. Pink wings! laughed Rudy. Yeah, this is the stuff I had left over from when I invented that giant Pig robot we used on Halloween last year, said Lenny. So you think you're just going to jump off and fly? asked Rudy. Yeah. Here goes, said Lenny. He backed up a little and took a quick dash and a jump.

Aaaaaaaaaaahh!!!  The wings broke right off and Lenny landed on his head in the middle of some bushes next to the house. After Rudy rolled around on the ground laughing for about a minute, he got up and asked Lenny if he was Ok. "Yeah, yeah, real funny," said Lenny. I guess they may have been a little weak, but I know the shape is just right. I will just go back to the workshop and make them out of another material. Something not as heavy as the scrap metal and not as light as the tissue paper.

Sounds like a good idea to me, said Rudy as he rolled his eyes. A couple of weeks later Lenny called up Rudy. I have really done it this time, said Lenny. You have done what? asked Rudy. I reworked the wings. I made them out of wax and balsa wood. These things look just like bird's wings. Meet me at the mountain, I need a witness, said Lenny. I am on the way, said Rudy. When Rudy arrived, he saw the wings. They did look good! I need you to help me strap them on, said Lenny.

Rudy helped him strap on the wings. They fit real snug. There was a handle under each wing out near the tip for Lenny to use to move the wings up and down and a belt that went around his waste so that they would not fall off. Here we go, yelled Lenny as he backed up and began running towards the crest of the hill. He did not slow down and just as he got to the edge of the hill, he started to lift up into the air. He was flying! YAHOOO! Yelled Lenny. He flew and flew just laughing and hooting. He flew higher and higher. He was really getting high now, and he started to worry. How do I land these things? he asked himself.

That question was about to be answered. All of a sudden, he noticed that his wings were starting to melt. He had risen so high, that the sun was starting to melt the wax he used to make the wings. Pretty soon he had little tiny wings and he was flying about a hundred miles an hour down towards the woods. Boy this is going hurt again, said Lenny to himself. He crashed into the trees. Rudy ran up, Are you all right?  He asked. Yeah, I think so, but I am definitely going to quit trying to fly. This is too rough on the body, said Lenny.

To this day, no one believes Rudy when he tells the story of how Lenny flew like a bird. It may be good that they do not believe him, because others would probably get hurt, as did Lenny. Lenny also made a commitment not to invent anything that cannot be used while standing firmly on the ground. He often tells people, if people were meant to fly, they would have wings!

Autobiography

        My name is Vivian Karina Martinez   Dominguez, I was born in Tocoa, Colon, Honduras C.A on February 11th 1992. My father was Carlos Alberto Martinez (1957-2011) who was a bus driver. My mother Zoila Maritza Dominguez Munguia a teacher in “Instituto Froylan Turcios” from Tocoa.

    I began my studies at “Renacimiento School” I was graduated from 6^th grade in 2003. After that, I began my secondary studies at the same institution where I graduated as a Bachelor in Science and    Letters with honored grades in 2008.

     In 2011 I began an English course in “Mazapan School” from La Ceiba getting my Diploma degree in English the same year. A year later I began my academic formation as an English teacher at “Universidad Pedagogica Nacional Francisco Morazán” in La Ceiba city, where I will continue studying until I graduate.

THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA C. S. LEWIS THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER

CHAPTER 1
THE PICTURE IN THE BEDROOM

The Chronicles of Narnia, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is a high fantasy novel for children. In the chapter number one talked about The Picture in the Bedroom. In this part is about a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, his cousins; Edmund and Lucy and a picture that Alberta, Eustace's mother had in the bathroom of her house. Eustace liked animals especially beetles but he disliked his cousins Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. the last two cousins were coming to stay in his hoouse, Eustace was angry with that.

 Peter is studying for his university entrance exams with Professor Kirke, and their older sister Susan is traveling through America with their parents. Edmund, Lucy, and Eustace are drawn into the Narnian world through a picture of a ship at sea. The painting, hanging neglected in the guest bedroom that the Pevensie children were using, had been an unwanted present to Eustace's parents. The three children land in the ocean near the pictured vessel, the titular Dawn Treader and are taken aboard.

The Dawn Treader is the ship of Caspian, King of Narnia, Edmund and Lucy helped him gain the throne from his evil uncle Miraz; Three years have passed since then, peace has been established in Narnia, and Caspian has undertaken a quest in fulfillment of his coronation to find the seven lost Lords of Narnia. Lucy and Edmund are delighted to be back in the Narnian world, but Eustace is less enthusiastic, as he has never been there before and had taunted his cousins with his belief that this alternate universe had never existed.

Biography of Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865) was the 16th President of the United States, serving from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. Abraham Lincoln is famous for the Gettysburg Address, abolishing slavery and being one of the four presidents who have been assassinated.

 Lincoln was studying law, taking and passing the bar in 1836. He became engaged to Mary Owens from Kentucky after meeting in the early 1830s but on 16 August 1837, he wrote her a letter suggesting he would not blame her for ending the relationship as they had both had second thoughts. She never replied.

In 1842, Lincoln married Mary Todd, and their relationship, as well as the part she played in his subsequent career, remains a matter of some debate. The pair met in 1839 and was engaged in December 1840 but they called off a wedding scheduled for 1 January 1841 at Lincoln's initiative. However, after meeting again they finally married on 8 November 1842.

In 1844, they bought a house in Springfield near Lincoln's law firm and she took care of the house diligently on a limited budget. They had four sons including Robert Todd Lincoln, who was born in 1843 and was their only child to reach adulthood.

Edward, who was born in 1846 died of tuberculosis in 1850, 'Willie' was born in 1850 and died in 1862, while son Tad was born in 1853 and died of heart failure at the age of 18 in 1871.

In 1846, Lincoln was elected to the U.S. Congress. His career got off to a stormy start, as he was not a staunch supporter of the war with Mexico, and he believed that slavery should be abolished. Both of these beliefs were not popular in his district of Illinois, and he was not re-elected.

Over the next 12 years, Lincoln practiced law and built up his firm. In 1854, the contentious issue of slavery erupted, with a bill brought by Stephen Douglas to organize the Kansas-Nebraska Territory.

This bill so incensed Lincoln that he re-entered the political fray. However, Lincoln failed to receive the nomination for senator in 1855 and, convinced his former party, the Whigs, was essentially dead; he joined the new Republicans, becoming a prominent figure in the party.

When Douglas returned to Illinois to fight for re-election to the Senate, Lincoln pressed Douglas for a discussion on the issue of slavery. These discussions became the famous Lincoln-Douglas debates and, although Douglas was re-elected, Lincoln had gained national recognition.

Que es Educación

La educación, (del latín educere "sacar, extraer" o educare "formar, instruir") puede definirse como:

• ·         El proceso multidireccional mediante el cual se transmiten conocimientos, valores, costumbres y formas de actuar. La educación no sólo se produce a través de la palabra, pues está presente en todas nuestras acciones, sentimientos y actitudes.
• ·         El proceso de vinculación y concienciación cultural, moral y conductual. Así, a través de la educación, las nuevas generaciones asimilan y aprenden los conocimientos, normas de conducta, modos de ser y formas de ver el mundo de generaciones anteriores, creando además otros nuevos.
• ·         Proceso de socialización formal de los individuos de una sociedad.

La educación se comparte entre las personas por medio de nuestras ideas, cultura, conocimientos, etc. respetando siempre a los demás. Ésta no siempre se da en el aula.

Existen tres tipos de educación:

• La educación formal hace referencia a los ámbitos de las escuelas, institutos, universidades, módulos.

• La no formal se refiere a los cursos, academias, e instituciones, que no se rigen por un particular currículo de estudios.

• La educación informal es aquella que fundamentalmente se recibe en los ámbitos sociales, pues es la educación que se adquiere progresivamente a lo largo de toda la vida.

CONCEPTO DE EDUCACIÓN

La educación es un proceso de socialización y endoculturación de las personas a través del cual se desarrollan capacidades físicas e intelectuales, habilidades, destrezas, técnicas de estudio y formas de comportamiento ordenadas con un fin social (valores, moderación del diálogo-debate, jerarquía, trabajo en equipo, regulación fisiológica, cuidado de la imagen, etc.).

En muchos países occidentales la educación escolar o reglada es gratuita para todos los estudiantes. Sin embargo, debido a la escasez de escuelas públicas, también existen muchas escuelas privadas y parroquiales.

La función de la educación es ayudar y orientar al educando para conservar y utilizar los valores de la cultura que se le imparte (p.e. la occidental -democrática y cristiana-), fortaleciendo la identidad nacional. La educación abarca muchos ámbitos; como la educación formal, informal y no formal.

Pero el término educación se refiere sobre todo a la influencia ordenada ejercida sobre una persona para formarla y desarrollarla a varios niveles complementarios; en la mayoría de las culturas es la acción ejercida por la generación adulta sobre la joven para transmitir y conservar su existencia colectiva. Es un ingrediente fundamental en la vida del ser humano y la sociedad y se remonta a los orígenes mismos del ser humano. La educación es lo que transmite la cultura, permitiendo su evolución.
